Ants, social insects residing in underground colonies with workers and a queen, possess a versatile diet but are particularly drawn to sweets. Indoors, they predominantly inhabit kitchens and bathrooms, attracted by both food and moisture.

Do You Know that several invasive ant species including; Fire Ants (Solenopsis Invicta), Dimiya (Oecophylla smaragdina) and Kadiya (Odontomachus simillimus) inflict painful bites and stings that can trigger allergic reactions. Ant sting symptoms can include itching, hives, flushing of skin, tingling, nausea or dizziness and anaphylaxis at severe concerns.
Unlike bees or wasps, Sri Lankan ants are generally non-lethal and exhibit a non-aggressive response when provoked. Black ant (Technomyrmex albipes), Ambalaya (Anoplolepisgracilipes) and Pharaoh ants (Monomorium pharaonis (L.)) are other non-invasive but can pose potential problems.
